Kids Health Corner

Kids Health Corner

When kids enter daycare or school for the first time, many seem to constantly be sick. Germs are everywhere, from toys to desks, to other kids. However, allowing your child to be adjusted regularly can help ease the symptoms or even prevent the onset of many upper respiratory infections. Cervical spine dysfunctions prevent proper lymphatic drainage through the deep cervical lymph nodes. By slowing this drainage, bacteria cannot be rapidly cleared and predisposes kids to common childhood illnesses such as tonsillitis, sinus infections, otitis media (ear infection), common colds, and bronchitis. Cervical adjustments help restore this drainage allowing the lymphatic system to filter bacteria and viruses from our kids’ bodies, keeping them healthier. Give your children the gift of better health!

Feng Wins King of the Mountains Jersey at Taiwan

getimage

Champion System Pro Cycling Team's Chun Kai Feng took home top honors in the king of the mountains classification Sunday at the Tour de Taiwan after securing and protecting the jersey since Friday's Stage 5.
Champion System Assistant Director Chris Wherry said he was proud of the team's overall effort to preserve the jersey in a race that saw Zach Bell win Stage 4 and teammate Adiq Othman earn four top five finishes, including fifth on the final stage.
"I am very pleased for the team," Wherry said. "Especially for Zach's stage win and Kai's KOM jersey."
With no categorized climbs on the final stage, a 58-kilometer circuit race through Taipei City, as Feng needed only to finish the race to secure the jersey. When a breakaway failed to materialize, the intermediate sprints turned into field sprints. Othman took third in the first and was runner-up on the second.
Rain started to fall as the peloton hit the final lap, and what looked to be a perfect lead out by Champion System for Fabian Schnaidt was ruined in a crash with two corners to go.
"I'm very bummed at the lost opportunity," Schnaidt said. "I thought I was going to have a great finish."
Hayato Yoshida (Shimano Racing Team) took the win ahead of Benjamin Giraud (Team La Pomme Marsielle). Othman's fifth place added to his fourth on Stage 3, fifth on Stage 5 and third on Stage 6. He finished the race as Champion System's best-placed rider overall in 11th, 47 seconds behind winner Bernard Sulzberger (DRAPAC Cycling).

The Most Aggressive Jersey Goes to RecoveryDoc Athlete Bobbie Traksel

Bobbie Traksel of Team Champion Systems Pro Cycling has taken hold of the most aggressive jersey title in Oman.

This is a great success for Team Champion Systems which aims to hold onto the jersey, “we are all focused on helping Bobbie keep the combative jersey,” Friedemann said. We are certainly happy after this great victory which occurred following the training camp, where Dr. Rick Rosa worked with the team on their sports recovery, strength and endurance. “This is a great start for the season for me,” Traksel said. “These races were great preparation for me and I’m feeling very good about my new position on the Champion System team.” Dr. Rick Rosa works with a number of athletes in his sports recovery program, RecoveryDoc, these athletes include Team Jamis Sutterfield, Tony Thompson boxer, Keystone Boxing, Team Lloyd Irvin, high school, college leagues and more.

To achieve success, Dr. Rosa utilizes his signature Six Pillars of Recovery program for athletes which encompass all aspects of healing. The Six Pillars include:
  • Awareness of State
  • Rest
  • Play
  • Nutrition
  • Physical
  • Psychological
This comprehensive approach enables a more complete healing process that will prevent further injuries as well as speed up recovery between workouts. Athletes respond better when a coach is able to map out a specific workout. Similarly, doctors are able to map out and monitor specific plans that the athlete can follow. In addition, the athlete will become more aware of his/her recovery state and when he/she has fully recovered. The athlete can put that much more into his/her workouts which will ultimately improve the performance. Would you like to see Dr. Rosa in action with the team? Here is a video you’ll love taken in China, where he worked as the Champion Systems Recovery Specialist and Sports Chiropractor. Chiropractic is the FIRST CHOICE

I just love when research backs up things that my patients and I see in the office every day.

F4CP points to new study documenting chiropractic as first option for back pain relief

January 14, 2013 — The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP) cites the results of a new study as further documentation of chiropractic care as a first option for back pain relief and surgical avoidance.

Early Predictors of Lumbar Spine Surgery after Occupational Back Injury: Results from a Prospective Study of Workers in Washington State,” (Spine; 12.12.2012) observed reduced odds of surgery for those under age 35, women, Hispanics, and those whose first provider was a chiropractor.

“In total, 42.7 percent of workers who initially visited a surgeon underwent surgery, in contrast to only 1.5 percent of those who first consulted a chiropractor,” reports Gerard Clum, DC, spokesperson, F4CP, who indicates the important study was conducted by a collaboration of prestigious institutions, including Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, University of Washington School of Public Health, University of Washington School of Medicine, Ohio State University College of Public Health and the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries. “Back injuries are the most prevalent occupational injury in the U.S., and care is commonly associated with one of the most costly treatments — spine surgery. Chiropractic is clearly the most appropriate first treatment option for patients with back pain, and this study confirms the value.”

An additional study, “Health Maintenance Care in Work-Related Low Back Pain and Its Association with Disability Recurrence,” (Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine;4.1.2011) also examined chiropractic care for occupational back injuries and found similar outcomes. The study reported for work-related nonspecific low-back pain, chiropractic care was associated with a lower disability recurrence, when compared to treatment by other medical interventions. Overall, chiropractic patients illustrated consistently better outcomes, less use of opioids, and had fewer surgeries, with lower medical expenses.

“As more data continues to surface touting the benefits of chiropractic care — lower costs, less risks and higher satisfaction rates — I expect that patients and practitioners will move toward considering chiropractic first, medicine second, and surgery last,” says Clum, who closes with praise of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Health Plan for already adopting this approach.
